Gilead COMPASS Initiative’s Update to the Ongoing Response to COVID-19

Southern CARE (COMPASS Addressing Regional Emergencies) was created to support existing grant partners of the Coordinating Centers of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative®.  During this time of unprecedented challenges, the Coordinating Centers of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative® recognize the significant impact that COVID-19 is having on all of us, especially community-based organizations that are committed to continuing their mission-driven service to their communities. Click here for more information and to apply for COVID-19 funding.

The Staff of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative® prioritizes the health and wellbeing of all of our community partners.  We recognize the challenges that many of you may be facing as you try to address the ongoing HIV-focused needs of your clients, while also ensuring the health and safety of your staff and community members related to COVID-19.

Please know that we understand the various challenges facing our community members in this time of uncertainty, and we also understand the difficulty that many of you will face in the weeks and months ahead. While we will continue to provide virtual services through the COMPASS Initiative® as much as possible through web-based and telephone communications in the coming weeks, we recognize that this is not an option for many of you as you face varying circumstances and challenges.

We expect that you may not be able to meet some of the deliverables set forth in your grants or other projects, nor respond to requests from us at this time.  Thus, we don’t want you worrying about project deliverables or deadlines.  As we continue to monitor this evolving situation, we will reach back out in the next couple of weeks to let you know how we intend to adjust and accommodate the needs of each of our partners moving forward.  Please be patient with us as we also adapt our services, address staff needs, and shift service provision models to accommodate the social distancing guidance recommended by our government at this time.

Please continue to prioritize taking care of yourselves, your families, your staff, and your members and clients.  As always, let us know how we can be of service.

For more on COVID-19, including information on symptoms and precautions, visit your state Department of Public Health website and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html .

Be well, and stay safe.
